ABSTRACT
Human Immuno-deficiency virus infection has assumed global
pandemic status as evidenced by the following epidemiological report
prevalence rates: Anambra State 1999 (6.0%); Anambra State 2001
(6.5%); Anambra State 2003 (3.8%) and Nigeria 2001 (5.8%).
Globally 34 million people are living with AIDS as at 2010. Four
hundred and seventy eight (478) individuals, who exhibited some
manifestations of chronic and debilitating illnesses including persistent
cough, skin cancer and dermatitis, multiple lymph adenitis, diarrhoea
and enteritis, genital sore, urethritis, vaginitis and weight loss, were
examined to establish relationships between human immunodeficiency
virus infection and some environmental factors including age, location
and marital status. The study revealed no significant relationship
between age and HIV infection except the age group of 11-19 years
that was significant when compared with other age groups. There was
generally no significant relationship between HIV prevalence, age,
location and marital status.
Keywords: HIV, Age, Location, Marital status, Environmental factors and Debilitating illness.
