Abstract
INVITRO EVALUATION OF ANTI-ARTHRITIC ACTIVITY IN DIFFERENT SOLVENT EXTRACTS FROM CUSCUTA REFLEXA.
Vennila V* and Anitha R
ABSTRACT
Objective: Cuscuta reflexa is a medicinal plant which is used for the
treatment of arthritis in folklore medicine. The present study was
aimed at the investigation of anti-arthritic activity of various solvent
extracts of C. reflexa by invitro model. Materials and methods: The
anti-arthritic activity of C. reflexa was done by invitro method of
inhibition of protein denaturation. Different solvent extract of C.
reflexa was subjected to invitro inhibition of protein denaturation in
various concentrations : 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1000 μg/ml. Results:
The present findings exhibited a concentration dependent inhibition of
protein (egg albumin and bovine albumin) denaturation by the different
solvent extracts of C. reflexa. The effect of diclofenac sodium was
found to be less when compared with the methanolic extracts of C. reflexa (1000 μg/ml), and
the protection percent increased with increase in the concentration of extracts of C. reflexa.
Conclusion: From the present study it can be concluded that C. reflexa showed marked
invitro antiarthritic activity against the denaturation of protein.
