Abstract

AN INVITRO ANTIOXIDANT, ANTI CANCER AND PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING OF SENGATHARI THYLAM -A POLY HERBAL SIDDHA FORMULATION.

ABSTRACT

Cancer remains to be the highest cause of mortality in the world and claims millions of human lives every year. Many systems are paying attention on cancer research to invent new interventions. It is evident that there are many anti cancerous drugs available in Siddha System of medicine since ages. Detailed descriptions of literary evidences spread over in many classical text books. Anti cancer and Anti oxidant potentials of SengathariThylam (SKT)- a Siddha poly herbal formulation is evaluated by employing MTT assay using SK.MEL28 cell lines which depicted the anti cancer activity of the drug in a positive manner. Besides the drug has significant antioxidant activity compared with that of ascorbic acid in the DPPH free radical scavenging assay. The results of the selected drug encompasses anti cancer and anti oxidant activities in a promising way which intends for further research.
