ABSTRACT
This study describes the composition of the volatile oil of Alpinia
Officinarum rhizomes of West Bengal. The essential has been
obtained by the process of steam distillation. 73 components were
identified by mass spectrometry. Identified molecules comprise 93.6%
of the total oil. The major components are 1,8-cineole (44.85%), alpha
terpineol (7.42%), beta pinene (5.04%) and gamma cadinene (3.86%).
This study reveals a 1,8-cineole content of 2505mg/kg of West Bengal
Alpinia Officinarum rhizomes.
Keywords: Alpinia Officinarum rhizomes, terpineol, spectrometry.
