ABSTRACT
Semicarbazone and thiosemicarbazone ligands used in these studies
were prepared by condensing acetyl acetone, benzoyl acetone and
glyoxal with semicarbazide hydrochloride and thiosemicarbazide in
1:2 molar ratio in ethanolic medium. These ligands were used to
synthesize a series of new metal complexes of Sn (II) in 1:1 molar ratio
using dry tetrahydrofuran(THF) as a reaction medium. Purity of
complexes has been confirmed by thin layer chromatography.
Characterization and structure elucidation of these tin (II) complexes
have been investigated on the basis of elemental analysis, molar
conductance and UV, IR, (1H, 13C, 119Sn) NMR spectral studies. The ligands and their metal
complexes have been screened for antibacterial and antifungal activities and are found quite
active in this respect. Tin (II) complexes have been found to be more active than their
uncomplexed ligands.
