ABSTRACT
Aqueous and methanolic extracts of Ficus glomerata were
screened for phytochemical constituents. The evaluation of the
antioxidant potential of the methanolic extract was also carried
out. Tests for tannin, steroids , anthraquinone, flavonoids and
cardiac glycosides were positive in both methanolic and aqueous
extracts. Alkaloids were detected only in the methanolic extract.
The total phenolic, flavonoid content, reducing power and percent
DPPH were 63.40± 0.02 mg/g, 43.41±0.04mg/g, 0.123±0.003nm,
89.46±0.003μg/ml obtained respectively. The phytochemical
screening revealed the presence of potent phytochemicals whose
synergistic effect may be responsible for strong antioxidant
activity. It indicates that the methanolic extract of the plant may have promising
antioxidant agents and may also help in the treatment of the disease caused by free radicals.
