Abstract

DEVELOPMENT OF A MICROEMULSION GEL COMPRISING OF ETODOLAC

Jignesh Khamkar*, Kedar Prabhavalkar, Rashmi Mallya

ABSTRACT

The aim of the conducted study was to investigate the prospective of the formulation of a microemulsion gel for topical delivery of etodolac. Various microemulsions were prepared by the aqueous titration method. The microemulsion area is identified by the construction of a pseudo ternary phase diagram. The prepared microemulsions were screened by various tests like pH, thermodynamic stability, clarity, drug loading capacity. The screened microemulsion was further subjected to the test of viscosity, polarimetry, globule size determination and zeta potential. The microemulsion so formed was further captured into a gel matrix by using various gelling agents like Carbopol, HPMC and poloxamer. The formulated microemulsion gels were subjected to different tests like pH, appearance, spreadability, extrudability and drug diffusion for screening. The screened microemulsion was further subjected to test of viscosity, ex-vivo diffusion. The results showed that microemulsion gel of can be a potential vehicle for prolonged drug delivery of etodolac.

Keywords: Etodolac, microemulsion gel, topical delivery, anti-inflammatory effects.
