MECHANISTIC STUDY OF RUTHENIUM (III) CATALYSED OXIDATION OF CITRIC ACID BY CHLORAMINE-T: IN ACIDIC MEDIUM

ABSTRACT
The Kinetic study on Ruthenium (III) Catalyzed oxidation of Citric
acid by acidic medium of Chloramine-T in the presence of Hg(OAc)2
in the acidic medium has been measured at 30,35 40 and 450C. The
reaction follows the first order with respect to Ruthenium (III) catalyst
and Oxidant .The zero order kinetic is found with respect to citric acid.
KCl shows Positive effect on the reaction rate. The effect of variation
of acetic acid and ionic strength of medium is observed on the reaction
velocity. The activation parameters have been computed. A suitable
mechanism is proposed and on the basis of the experiment results rate
of reaction is calculated.
