ABSTRACT
The objective of this review outlines the application of Mathematical
models for study of release phenomenon of drug from dosage forms.
Mathematically, it is easy to identify the designing of a particular
Pharmaceutical system and it can be used to predict the effect of device
design parameters on the release kinetic of the formulation. It is easier
to obtain the quantitative analysis of data for dissolution release rate by
using these models. The choice of selection of best model /appropriate
model depends on the desired or required predictive ability and
accuracy of the model. The underlying drug release mechanism can be
elucidate which is not only of academic interest but a pre-requisite for
an efficient improvement of the safety of the formulation and for
effective trouble shouting during production. This review gives the idea about the current
state of mathematical modeling of drug delivery including empirical/semi empirical and
mechanistic release models.
