ABSTRACT
The present work describes first order derivative UV
spectrophotometry for simultaneous estimation of Glimepiride (GLM)
and Pioglitazone (PIO) in bulk drug and combined dosage form.
Water: Acetonitrile (20:80) at pH 2.5 was used as a diluent. GLM and
PIO were analysed at 268.73 nm and 226.72 nm, respectively using
first order derivative Spectroscopy. This method was validated as per
International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) guidelines. The
values of correlation coefficient for GLM and PIO were 0.9996 and
0.9991, respectively. The percent recovery for GLM and PIO was in
the range of 98.6-101.2% and 98.85-100.7%, respectively. Precision
and result of assay of formulation were satisfactory. Statistical analyses
for the results suggest that the method can be applied for the routine
estimation of GLM and PIO in capsule dosage form.
