ABSTRACT
In the present study, the peroxide scavenging activity of phytochemicals extracted with different solvents from different plant parts of Moringa oleifera were evaluated. The total phenolic content in each extract was also measured. The aqueous extract of seed and ethyl acetate extract of leaf of Moringa oleifera showed highest peroxide scavenging activity as 47.43 and 56.41% in comparison to ascorbic acid which showed 53.3% inhibition to peroxide radicals in linoleic acid based assay system in vitro. No correlation was found between total phenolic content and peroxide scavenging activity.
Keywords: Moringa oleifera, reactive oxygen species, peroxide radicals, antioxidants, total phenolic content.
