CLINICAL STUDY FOR INVESTIGATION OF ENCEPHALITIS SUFFERING SUBJECTS FROM DHEMAJI DISTRICT OF ASSAM, INDIA

ABSTRACT
In the present investigation, the study was conducted to investigate the positive samples of subjects suffering from Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in Dhemaji Dist. of Assam from July 2013-Nov 2014. Total of 143 patients samples were collected and all samples were negative for parasites and dengue, but out of which 52 samples (36.37%) were found positive for Japanese Encephalitis. Total encephalitis mortality rate was found to be 20.28%. The side effects found to be in positive subjects were loss of speech and paralysis. Total of 9 samples were
showed equivocal in JE IgM ELISA test. It was observed that out of all 143 patients, only 50 patients were vaccinated for Japanese Encephalitis and rest 93 patients were not vaccinated. Regarding vaccinated patients, it was found that maximum vaccinated patients were below 10 years of age, followed by 11-20 years of age, 41 years above and 21-30 years. Further molecular studies are in progress of the concerned samples.
