ABSTRACT
Barringtonia acutangula Linn. (Family-Barringtoniaceae) commonly
known as Hinjal, is perhaps one of the useful traditional medicinal
plant in India. It is used in various Ayurvedic formulations for the
treatment of various diseases. Different Barringtonia species have

B. racemosa, B. asiatica, B. lanceolata and B. edulis, definitely
demonstrate that might have potential medicinal properties. Each plant
part of B. acutangula is having some ethnopharmacologic benefits.
Various phytochemical bioactive constituents are present but not
screened for their biological activities. The review may focus the
extensive investigation of its bioactivity, mechanism of action and
toxicological evaluation of those bioactive phytoconstituents.
