ABSTRACT
The purpose of this research endeavour was directed towards the development of a sustained release dosage form of venlafaxine in the form of reservoir type tablets with coating technology with help of Eudragit polymer to be taken once daily. Venlafaxine is a unique antidepressant that differs structurally from other currently available antidepressants, The steady state half lives of venlafaxine and o-desmethylvenlafaxine are 5 and 11 h, respectively, necessitating the administration, two or three times daily so as to maintain adequate plasma levels of drug. A properly designed sustained release dosage form of venlafaxine will minimize the fluctuation in blood
concentration, decreasing the risk of side effects and will show uniform pharmacological response and reduce the frequency of administration.
Keywords: sustained release, reservoir tablet with coating technology, Venlafaxine HCl, Eudragit polymer, etc.
