A NEWER DIMENSION IN THE MANAGEMENT OF VATAJA YONIVYAPADA WITH UTTAR BASTI (INTRAUTERINE INSTILLATION)

ABSTRACT
In Ayurveda, the normal menstruation is that which has intermenstrual period of one month, duration of blood loss as five days (this may differ according to opinions of different authors),is not associated with pain or burning sensation, excreted blood is not unctuous, not very scanty or excessive in amount, the colour resembles the red juice of lac, red lotus flower , fruit of jequirity or rabbit’s blood. There are some precautions advised in Ayurveda during menstruation, the utility of all these restrictions is doubtful. However in todays changed social structure, it is not possible to observe these strictly. With todays knowledge of Physiology, it is clear that unwholesome, incompatible imbalanced diet influences health of individual which in turn may be a predisposing factor for so many diseases. The stri rogas are described under the heading of YoniVyapadas. Among them Vataja Yoni
Vyapada relates to painful and irregular menses. Keeping in mind that Pain is body’s most important alarm system because it draws attention to the fact that something is at fault, an attempt has been made to find a suitable management in Vataja YoniVyapada which is easy to administer and cost effective.
In this paper, effect of Guduchyadi vati (oral) and Guduchyadi taila Uttarbasti was assessed in the management of Vataja Yonivyapada (painful and irregular menses). A clinical trial was conducted in 75 females of reproductive age group, Patients having features of Vataja YoniVyapada were diagnosed and registered. Detailed analysis was done for age of prevalance, menstrual changes before and after treatment as per assessment criterias like Intensity of pain ,Intervel between mensus, Amount of menstrual blood and Consistency . Chi square and Friedman Chi square non-parametric test was used to assess the correlation of symptoms before and after treatment. P
