ABSTRACT
Kinetics of oxidation on Dicloxacillin sodium [DXS] by chloromine-T [CAT] in hydrochloric acid [HCl] medium at 298 K has been investigated spectrophotometrically at λmax 285 nm. The reaction shows first order dependence on [CAT] and fractional order dependence on [DXS] and inverse fractional order on [HCl]. Decrease in dielectric constant of the reaction medium decreases the rate constant. Variation of ionic strength has no effect on the rate. Activation parameters have been computed. The stoichiometry of the reaction was found to be 1:1. The main oxidation products were identified based on Spectral studies. A suitable mechanism has been proposed.
