A CLINICAL STUDY OF HIRUDOTHERAPY (JALOUKAVACHARANA) IN EKAKUSHTHA W.S.R TO PSORIASIS

ABSTRACT
Hirudotherapy is a treatment using medical leeches. Leeches remove blood ("phlebotomize") from their host, and they release pain-killing (anesthetic) and blood-thining (anticoaggulant) substances with their saliva. Indications for treatment with medicinal leeches skin diseases like neurodermatitis, psoriasis, eczema, etc. It’s easier to name contra-indications here: absolute-hemophilia, relative-pregnancy, anemia, hypotonic; Jaloukavacharana is a type of Raktamokshana which is very much useful especially in pittadushti conditions and Raktadustigata Roga. Psoriasis a chronic skin disease characterized by dry red patches covered with scales; occurs especially on the scalp and ears and genitalia and the skin over bony prominences. The prevalence of psoriasis in India is estimated to be around 0.7%. Around one-third of people with psoriasis report a family history of the disease. Ekakushtha is a Yapya tridoshaj vyadhi with vata-kapha predominance that differentiate from other Kustha by typical symptoms Mahavastu and Mastyasaklopamam.Total 57 patients were registered for hirudothrrapy on the treatment of psoriasis. Total 50 patients were completed and 7 patients drop out to their course of treatment. Total duration of treatment was 28 days with four sitting 7-7 days interval. Significant Result has been seen in Jaloukavacharana on psoriasis in specific sign and symptoms.
