BHALLATAK KALP (SEMECARPUS ANACARDIUM) IN MANAGEMENT OF RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS; A CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT
A young educated unmarried girl approach in OPD with severe pain, swelling and stiffness in joints as she was known case of Rheumatoid arthritis (RA). She has taken many allopathic medicines for the same but could not have any relief in pain, swelling and stiffness of joints. Rheumatoid arthritis has etiological and clinical relationship with Aamavata in Ayurveda literature. Aamavata is a disease complex of which RA is a part. Aamavata is a metabolic disorder with decreased level of agni (transformation energy). Ayurveda follows a defense strategy and it focuses its search on the etiological process, balancing
of dosha, increase in agni and restoring the damaged intestinal mucosa and absorption. Bhallatak (Semecarpus anacardium) is a rejuvenative drug with good potency for increasing the agni and equilibrium of dosha mainly disturbed because of kapha. Bhallatak bhasma kalpa showed the significant imrovent in clinical manifestations as well as laboratory findings in this case of rheumatoid arthritis.
