ABSTRACT
With an objective of developing some novel, natural antibacterial and antitubercular agents here we have carried out the phytochemical screening and evaluation of In-vitro antibacterial and antitubercular activity of Mimusops elengi L bark. Here the powdered bark was subjected to successive soxhlet extraction using different solvents of increasing polarity. The successive chloroform, methanol and aqueous extracts were subjected for antibacterial and antitubercular activity screening using ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin and isoniazid as standard drugs respectively. The chloroform extract exhibited good antibacterial and antitubercular activity. So it was further subjected for preliminary phytochemical and chromatographic examination. Attempt was made to isolate the compounds using isocratic elution technique. The isolated
compound was characterized by spectral data (UV, NMR and Mass).
Keywords: Mimusops elengi L bark; Sapotaceae, anti-tubercular, MABA method.
