SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF N 2 -SUBSTITUTED BENZENE SULFONYL N 1 - 5-SUBSTITUTED BENZOFURAN-2-CARBOHYDRAZIDE FOR THEIR ANTI-DIABETIC ACTIVITY

ABSTRACT
The reaction of substituted benzofuran-2-carbohydrazide (1) with
various substituted benzene sulfonyl chlorides (2) yielded
corresponding N
2
-substituted benzene sulfonyl-N
1
-5-substituted
benzofuran-2-carbohydrazides (3a-j). Elemental analysis, IR, H
1
NMR
and mass spectral data confirmed the structure of newly synthesized
compounds. The compound 3a, 3b, 3i and 3j were screened for their
anti-diabetic activity in vivo using streptozotocin induced diabetic
model. Derivative 3i and 3j were found to show significant
hypoglycemic activity. Derivative 3b was found to be moderate active
and the analogue 3a was found to be less potent as compared to other
derivative.
