“SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION AND BIOLOGICAL STUDIES OF 1, 3, 4-OXADIAZOLE DERIVATIVES OF SULTAMS”

ABSTRACT
A new class of 1,3,4-Oxadiazole derivatives of Sultams namely 2-benzyl-5-(5-(4-substituted phenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)-3-phenyl-2,3,4,5-tetrahydrobenzo[f][1,2,4]thiadiazepine 1,1-dioxide (9a-9e) were synthesized by reaction of hydrazone derivative of Sultam (8) with different 4- substituted benzoic acid derivatives. The structure of each novel compound was elucidated on the basis of elemental analysis, IR 1H NMR and Mass spectral Analysis. All the newly synthesized compounds were screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activities. Antimicrobial studies revealed that the pharmacological properties of 1,3,4-oxadiazoles were enhanced by introducing alkoxy and halogen substituents.
