ABSTRACT
The objective of this study is to systematically evaluate the effectiveness of the homeopathic formulation of Bryonia alba in treatment of gouty arthritis different chemical induced gouty arthritis models in rats. Two different potencies of the drug (Bryonia alba-30X and Bryonia alba-Q) were evaluated in different models of gouty arthritis. In the MSU model, the symptomatic relief providing activity of the drug was tested where it shown effective reduction in the inflammation while comparing the inflammation induced with Indomethacin as a standard. In the second model potassium oxonate an uricase enzyme inhibitor was used to induce hyperuricemia and it was seen if the formulation could reduce the elevated uric acid in the
serum. To assert the mechanism of action XDH and XOD assays were done to determine whether the drug inhibited these enzymes while comparing with allopurinol as a standard.
Keywords: Bryonia alba, XDH and XOD.
