Abstract
DEVELOPMENT OF COMPOSITION AND TECHNOLOGY OF QUERCETIN SUSPENSION IN MILK THISTLE OIL DISPENSED IN HARD GELATIN CAPSULES
*Hamam Salih Badri Hamam
ABSTRACT
Great number of liver and gastrointestinal diseases together with
hepatotoxicity of many synthetic drugs causes an urgency to search
new herbal medicines with strong therapeutic action and minimal side
effects. Many hepatoprotective drugs, containing as an active
component flavolignans extracted from milk thistle seeds, have been
developed and manufactured commercially. At the same time oil
obtained from this raw material also has hepatoprotective, antiinflammatory,
epitelizing and wound-healing action, however it is not
used as a medicinal substance and considered as waste in
manufacturing of the above-stated preparations. Besides, new trends in
pharmacotherapy of liver and gastrointestinal diseases provide
application of hepatoprotectors in complex with potent antioxidants, e.g. quercetin that allows
to achieve stronger and rapid pharmacological effect as a result of synergic interactions of
components Taking above-stated into account development of technology for new
hepatoprotective herbal drug. The purpose of this work is development of composition and
technology for new herbal drug in form of quercetin suspension in milk thistle oil dispensed
into hard gelatin capsules. For capsulation the quercetin suspension containing 0,1 % of span-65, dispergated for 5
minutes with ultrasound at 22 kHz frequency and 3 W / cm2 power was used.
