ABSTRACT
Pfitzinger condensation reaction performed under basic condition, and it provides simple, novel an efficient synthesis of quinoline-4- carboxylic acid derivatives, which were developed by the domain reaction of Isatin and acetophenone in the presence of 33% KOH in ethanol at reflux condition for 12-13 hrs. The major returns of this protocol are excellent yield, operational cleanness and formation of novel quinoline-4-carboxylic acid derivatives. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for antimicrobial activity. The antimicrobial activity against three Gram-negative bacterial strains (E. coli, Klebsiella pneumonia and Pseudomonas aeruginosa), and three Gram-positive bacterial strains (Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus licheniformis and Staphylococcus saureus) of these quinoline-4-carboxylic acid derivatives were determined.
Keywords: Isatin, Methylphenyl ketone, Quinoline-4-carboxylic acid derivatives and Pfitzinger reaction.
