ABSTRACT
The present research work involves the synthesis of an N- Substituted-
1, 3, 4-oxadiazol-2-yl)-3-chloro-4-phenylazetidin-2-one (a-f) by
refluxing substituted (styryl)-N-benzylidene-1, 3, 4-oxadiazol-2-amine
in ethanol. The Synthesized compounds were characterized by
elemental analysis, FTIR, 1H NMR and Mass spectrum. All the
synthesized compounds were screened for antimicrobial activity by
cup plate method against gram (+ve) bacterial strain, staphylococcus
aureus, Bacillus subtilis, gram (-ve) bacteraial strain, Escherichia coli,
Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Gram-negative) & fungal species Candida
albicans. Compounds (e) Showed most potent antibacterial activity on
both concentrations against Staphylococcus aureus. Compound (a) showed most potent
antibacterial activity on both concentrations against Escherichia coli. Compounds (c) showed
most potent antibacterial activity on both concentrations against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Compounds (b) showed most potent antifungal activity on both concentrations against
Candida albicans.
Keywords: 2-azetidinone, Antibacterial activity, Antifungal activity.
