Abstract

PREPARATION AND EVALUATION FLURBIPROFEN HYDROGEL PATCH

Madishetty Sai Supritha* and Dr. M. Sunitha Reddy

ABSTRACT

This study presents the successful formulation and evaluation of a Flurbiprofen hydrogel patch. Preformulation studies were conducted on Flurbiprofen, followed by the formulation of hydrogels using optimal ratios of polymers like HPMC, Carbopol and other excipients. Various parameters, including pH, moisture content, swelling index, and drug release, were evaluated, revealing for the most favourable drug release profiles. Based on the determined drug dosage, hydrogel patches were developed and assessed for thickness, moisture content, folding endurance, and in vitro diffusion studies. All the evaluations of hydrogel patch was satisfactory mechanical properties. Notably, the best formulation achieved a cumulative drug release of 98%, demonstrating effective controlled release characteristics. Drug release kinetics were determined to follow zero-order and Higuchi models for diffusion studies of patch shows the controlled release of formulation. Stability studies over three months at particular temperature indicated no significant changes in evaluation parameters and % cumulative drugrelease affirming the stability of the Flurbiprofen hydrogel patch formulation.
