ABSTRACT
Some medications have low absorption due to the gastrointestinal tract's (GIT) limited absorption window. Techniques for gastroretentive drug delivery are essential for enhancing the absorption of such medications in the GIT. Lamivudine is an Anti viral drug. The purpose of the floating gastroretentive microspheres was to achieve a prolonged therapeutic effect of lamivudine. To increase the medication candidate's bioavailability and prolong its stomach retention, floating microspheres were created. HPMC K15, HPMC K100M, Eudragit RL and Eudragit RS polymers were used in the formulation of the floating microspheres. Preliminary evaluation parameters, micrometric analysis, percentage yield of microspheres, drug entrapment efficiency, in-vitro drug release investigations, and their kinetics were used to assess the suggested floating system. Formulated microsphere gives a good percentage of drug entrapmentand practical yields. The drug release was extended by up to 12 hours by the floating microsphere. The produced formulation's infrared spectroscopy revealed that the lamivudine's chemical structure remained unaltered. Lamivudine microspheres that were created demonstrated extended-release and gastro-retentive qualities.
