ABSTRACT
The aim of the present study to evaluate the comparative study of phytochemical screening, HPTLC Finger printing profile, FT-IR analysis and Anti-microbial assay in the ethanoic extract of rhizome part of Zingiber officinale and Curcuma amada against different bacterial strains. The Zingiberaceae has the great importance in the plant kingdom because the members of this family give up spices, perfumes, dyes and valuable medicines. Alongside, a number of species of this family are cultivated for flowering. Mango ginger is one of the important species of this family having medicinal and biological properties such as antiageing, antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti allergic, antifungal, platelet aggregation inhibition activity and analgesic activity. The preliminary phytochemical screening showed that the most of the secondary metabolites mainly found in ethanolic extract of rhizome part of two plant such as Zingiber officinale and Curcuma amada. Bioactive compounds such as Alkaloids, Flavonoids, Phenols, Phytosterol, and Saponin were highly present in the ethanolic extract when compared to other solvents likeChloroform, Ethyl acetate, Petroleum ether and Aqueous extract based on the solubility. HPTLC analysis study revealed that flavonoids compounds were found as identified fraction in the ethanolic extract of Zingiber officinale and Curcuma amada compared with standard Gallic acid and Quercetin in the UV range of 254 and 366 nm respectively. The ethanolic extract of rhizome part of Zingiber officinale and Curcuma amada possess essential organic functional groups were found by FT- IR analysis. The antimicrobial assay study revealed that the ethanolic extract of rhizome part of Zingiber officinale and Curcuma amada showed potential antibacterial activity against E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus in a maximum concentration based on concentration dependent manner. Final study revealed that ethanolic extract of Zingiber officinale has comparatively much better than Curcuma amada based on the results This review focus on the rhizome part of EEZO & EECA possess essential active compounds and hence proved that it can be used alone or in combination with allopathic drugs act as a potent drug for various diseases.
Keywords: Zingiber officinale, Curcuma amada, Gallic acid, Quercetin, HPTLC, FT-IR & Antimicrobial Assay.
