Abstract

AN IN VIVO EVALUATION OF SPERMATOGENIC ACTIVITY OF MADANODAYA RASA IN METRANIDAZOLE INDUCED WISTER ALBINO RATS

ABSTRACT

Background: Infertility is a serious health issue affecting 60-80 million couples worldwide out of which 15-20 million couples are from India alone. Male infertility contributes 50 % of infertility globally. Aim: To evaluate spermatogenic activity of Madanodaya Rasa (MDR~ a herbo- mineral preparation) in metronidazole induced oligospermic Albino rats. Method: MDR is one of the unique Kupi Pakwa Rasayana mentioned in Rasa Manjari, having vrishya property. It is prepared by Parada (~Mercury) and Gandhaka (~Sulphur) as the main ingredient in the ratio of 1: 1½ with bhavana dravya Rakta Kamala Pushpa Swarasa (~juice of red lotus flower) mainly indicated in Male infertility. Many Kupipakwa Rasayanas are mentioned in male infertility treatment, but research works done in this area is unavailable and not there in market also. Hence the present study is focusing on the preparation and chemical analysis of MDR along with evaluating the capacity of MDR, in enhancing the spermatogenic potential, mating behaviour parameters and histopathological studies to prove its Spermatogenic Activity in male Albino Rats. Statistical analysis used: The significance between 5 groups in different experimental parameters were analyzed by one way ANOVA . Results: MDR was prepared by VMF method, and its yield was 28%. Analytical study reveals that it was in hexagonal crystalline form with HgS as main compound. MDR with Anupana are Shukrala and Vrishya in nature and the combined effect of all these drugs provides the best Aphrodisiac effect which was proven experimentally. Conclusion: The unique bhavana dravya, Rakta Kamala pushpa Swarasa contribute vrishya property to the drug such as Sukra janana (~spermatogenesis) and Praharsha janana (~mating behaviour).
