Abstract

NUTRACEUTICAL INTERVENTIONS IN HEPATITIS A, B AND C: MECHANISM, EVIDENCE AND FUTURE DIRECTIONS

Ram S. Ghotkar*, Yogesh D. Kawade and Mohan G. Doijad

ABSTRACT

Hepatitis A, B, and C are significant global public health concerns, leading to acute and chronic liver diseases. While antiviral therapies have shown efficacy in controlling these infections, there is growing interest in the role of nutraceutical interventions as complementary strategies. Nutraceuticals, encompassing a range of bioactive compounds derived from foods and natural sources, may exert beneficial effects through anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiviral mechanisms. This review explores the mechanistic actions of various nutraceuticals, including silymarin, curcumin, resveratrol, and omega-3 fatty acids, in the context of hepatitis virus infection. Clinical evidence supporting their efficacy, safety, and potential to enhance liver health and antiviral responses is critically analyzed. Furthermore, we highlight emerging nutraceuticals and discuss their future potential in the management and treatment of Hepatitis A, B, and C. The article also suggests future directions for research, focusing on clinical trials and the development of combination therapies that integrate nutraceuticals with conventional treatments to enhance therapeutic outcomes.

Keywords: Nutraceuticals, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C.
