ABSTRACT
Tecoma stans Juss is an Indian medicinal plant belongs to the family Bignoniacea. The present study has been design to screen the pharmacological studies such as anthelmintic activity of Tecoma stans Juss of ethanolic extracts on Helminthes. To investigate the in-vitro anthelmintic activity of ethanolic extract of Tecoma stans Juss We select the Indian adult earthworms (Pheretima posthuma) were used for this experiment, in this work dried extract was suspended in 1% w/v carboxy, prepared in normal saline water in three different conc. (25, 50, 100 mg/ml). Albendazole suspension of same concentration was taken as standard and normal saline water with 1% CMC was taken as a control. Worms were placed in Petric dish containing 15 ml of sample (drug) solution. Time for paralysis (Vermifuge) was noted either when any movement could not be observed except when the worms shaken vigorously or when dipped in warm water (50 0C). Death (Vermicidal) was included when the worms lost their motility followed by white secretions and fading away of their body colour. Ethanolic extract of Tecoma stans Juss has showed significant anthelmintic activity at all the tested doses when compared to standard as vermifuge and vermicides while highly significant activity exhibited at the higher concentration (100 mg/ml). The current investigation leads to conclusion that the Tecoma stans Juss have potent anthelminitc activity when compare with the standard albendazole drug. Hence, we can use this herb as alternate source of anthelmintic drugs and the activities may probably due to the presence of flavonoids, glycosides, saponins, alkaloids and triterpenes.
