TAXONOMY, PHYTOCHEMISTRY& PHARMACOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF VITEX NEGUNDO – A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Globally, there has been a recent surge in interest in plant study, and a substantial amount of data has accumulated to demonstrate the enormous potential of medicinal plants utilized in a variety of traditional systems. Similarly, it has long been established that a variety of plant parts, including leaves, fruits, seeds, and so on, contain nutrients and health-promoting substances. Vitex negundo L. (Verbenaceae) is a hardy plant with many traditional uses against a variety of ailments that is primarily found in the Indian subcontinent. Every portion of the plant, from the root to the fruit, has several secondary metabolites that are phytochemicals, including as luteolin, apigenin, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, casticin, negundoside, vitexin, and others, have been identified from this plant. The plant has historically been used to treat inflammation, ulcers, analgesics, hepatoprotection and CNS depressive activities. Information on the taxonomy, morphology, phytochemistry, medicinal applications, and pharmacological significance of Vitex negundo is provided in this review.
