A REVIEW ON BUTTERFLY PEA PLANT

ABSTRACT
The current review highlights the pharmacological properties and medical applications of Clitoria ternatea Linn (Fabaceae Family). Common names for this twining, evergreen garden blooming plant are Aparajita (Hindi) and Butterfly Pea (English). It has long been utilized in the Ayurvedic medical system as a medhya, or brain tonic. The medicinal properties of the butterfly pea (Clitoria ternatea) are attributed to a diverse array of chemical components, including alkaloids, saponin, tannin, glycosides, phytosterols, and carbohydrates. This essay examines the C. ternatea plant's morphology, historical applications, phytochemicals, and pharmacological properties. Plant extracts from Clitoria ternatea have been shown to have cytotoxic, antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antidiabetic properties that are good for human health.
