Abstract

AYURVEDA APPROACH IN THE MANAGEMENT OF JATYADI TAIL IN DUSTA VRANA W.S.R TO BED SORES – A CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT

Although wound healing, or Vranaropana is a natural process, whereas infections prevent wounds from healing properly and cause them to become Dushta Vranas. One kind of Dushta Vrana is a bedsore or pressure ulcer. It usually arises as a result of patients becoming immobile. It forms in the tailbone, hips, ankles, and heels. As per Samhita, Acharya Sushruta provides a detailed description of the Vrana. Dushta Vrana which fail to heal for a long period and result in to chronic wound (Deergha Kalanubadhi Dushta Vrana), such Vrana needs Shodhana (Bahya) and Ropana (Bahya) Chikitsa. Acharya Sushrutha had mentioned Shashti Upakramas for Vrana Chikitsa. Among them is Prakshalana, Vrana Dhupana and Raksha Vidhana. The above said procedure was followed for antibacterial and antiseptic qualities for the treatment and prevention of Vrana. Shodhana with Dasamuladi Kwatha and Vrana Dhupana with Dhupana Dravyas and Ropana by Jatyadi Taila. In the current case study, a 53-year-old male patient arrived at the outpatient department (OPD) had right-sided hemiplegia and he developed bed sores on his buttocks as a result of immobility, which were treated with an Ayurvedic Management.
