Salah Shayyal Shingar*, Ali Anok Njum and Wurood Layedh Nafi

ABSTRACT

Helicobacter Pylori is a gram-negative bacterium. It produces urease, has a spiral like conformation, microaerophilic and motile because ofthe flagella. H.pylori has developed mechanisms to survive thestomach environment and achieve persistent colonization. It is anactive stimulator of both the innate and acquired immune responses. The hallmark of H.pylori infection is a marked inflammatory responsewith the infiltration of various immune cells into the infected gastricmucosa; the host immune response is unable to clear the infection andmay actually contribute to the associated pathogenesis A total of 100patients were screened for this study. Patients attended theGastroenterology Unit of hospital, because of recurrent abdominal painand other gastrointestinal complaints. Three biopsies were obtainedfrom grossly inflamed areas of the antrum. 10 biopsy was used for Ultra Rapid Urease testand molecular assays to detection of ureB gene Our results shows out of 100 patient only 20(20%) patients infected with H.pylori. molecular assays to detection of ureB genes for 10biopsy showed only 2 samples positive for ureB.
