PHARMACOGNOSTICAL EVALUATION OF INGREDIENTS OF MADHYAMA PANCHAMOOLA - AN AYURVEDIC COMPOUND

ABSTRACT
Background: Madhyama panchamoola is a significant Ayurvediccombination. It is made up of the roots of five distinct plants: Eranda(Ricinus communis), Bala (Sida cordifolia), Punarnava (Boerhaaviadiffusa), Mudgaparni (Vigna trilobata), and Mashaparni (Teramnuslabialis). Material & Method: Freehand transverse sections of fiveroots were taken and using Safranine reagent, sections were observedunder the microscope to assess their various microscopic features.Observation & Result: Pharmacognostical characters showsidentification features of plants included in Madhyama Panchamoolalike Crystals of Calcium oxalate like Acicular, Rosette and PrismaticCrystals, Starch grains and Oil globules were observed in differentroots. Discussion and Conclusion: The microscopic structures whichare observed in Madhyama panchamoola helps in correct identificationof roots of Eranda (Ricinus communis), Bala (Sida cordifolia),Punarnava (Boerhaavia diffusa), Mudgaparni (Vigna trilobata), and Mashaparni (Teramnuslabialis).
