A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW ON AUSHADHI VARGA OF KAIYADEVA NIGHANTU: TRADITIONAL INSIGHTS AND CONTEMPORARY RELEVANCE

ABSTRACT
The “Nighantu” means a traditional collection of words, grouped intothematic categories, often with brief annotations. In the field ofDravyaguna, Nighantu is one of the very important literature whichgives details about Dravyas and lifestyle. We can not find in detaileddescriptions of plants in Samhita Kala, but in the Nighantu period, wewere able to obtain detailed information about the morphologicalcharacteristics of plants, their medicinal uses, and other details.Ayurveda treatment possesses herbal, mineral, animal origin drugswhich mainly take part in the treatment of various health ailments andthese all drugs are available in Nighantus. Kaiyadeva Nighantu is oneof them and is a 15th -century lexicon in Ayurvedic Materia medica.The author of this lexicon is Acharya Kaiyadeva. In comparison toother Nighantu Kaiyadeva Nighantu is Very easy to understand andclarify many doubts come across the classical Nighantu. The Nighantuis divided into 08 section named as Vargas, viz; Aushadhi Varga, Dhatu Varga, DhanyaVarga, Drava Varga, Kritanna Varga, Mamsa Varga, Vihara Varga, Mishraka Varga. Here anattempt is made to elaborate on Aushadhi Varga and its each drug and its therapeuticapplication in various health ailments.
