A REVIEW ON ANTI-UROLITHIC ACTIVITY OF HERBAL MEDICINE

ABSTRACT
For several centuries, urolithiasis has been a prevalent issue with ahigh recurrence rate. Herbal drugs have shown many pharmacologicalactivities, and they are in use and demand due to their safety and lessside effects. Urolithiasis is a prevalent condition that affects roughly12% of the population. In males, the recurrence rate is 70–81%, whilein females, it is 47–60%. It results in significant health issues that havea negative impact on people's wellbeing, such as infection, urinary tractobstruction, and excruciating pain. Insufficient urine flow, urinary tractmicrobial infections, diets high in oxalates and calcium, vitaminabnormalities such as vitamin A deficiency and excess vitamin D, andmetabolic disorders such as hyperthyroidism, cystinuria, gout,intestinal dysfunction, etc. are the main causes of stone formation. This review aims to explainthe mechanism of action of some commonly used antiurolithiatic herbs.
