ABSTRACT
The study was designed to determine the quantitative estimation totalpolyphenol, flavanoids, tannin content and gastro-protective activity offlower extract of Barleria Prionitis Linn in various experimentalmodels. The various extracts were prepared by using pet ether, 70%ethanol and aqueous as a solvents. The whole flavanoid fraction wasseparated by using separation funnel technique and identified byphytochemical test. The 70% EEBPF was further screened for antiulcer activity induced by ethanol and aspirin plus pylorus ligation. Thevarious relevant parameters like ulcer index, gastric volume, gastricpH, free acidity and total acidity were estimated in aspirin plus pylorusligation induced ulcer model. Pretreatment with 70% EEBPF exhibitedsignificant ulcer protective property at all the tested doses 250, 500 and750 mg/kg and flavanoid fraction at 100mg/kg in ethanol and aspirinplus pylorus ligation induced gastric ulcer models. Administration of70 % EEBPF found to possess an excellent scavenging activity and possesses ulcer protectiveactivity.
