EFFECT OF DRY CUPPING THERAPY IN MANAGEMENT OF KATIGRAHA W.S.R TO RANGE OF MOVEMENTS

ABSTRACT
Katigraha is an important clinical, social, economic and public health problem affecting the population. In Ayurveda classics, Vata dosha can be considered as dominant one as it can force the other two doshas to move from their sites. Kati region is also mentioned as one among the major Vata sthana and one of the diseases affecting this region is Katigraha in which Vata becomes imbalance in its own Sthana producing symptoms like pain and stiffness. LBP is a common disorder affecting most people at some point of life. The recent surveys revealed that 4 out of 5 people across the world are affected by low back pain. India has a varied prevalence of LBP among the rural as well as urban population ranging from 6.2 to 92%. The recommended treatment for managing low back pain can be classified into pharmacological, non-pharmacological and surgical treatments. Cupping being a Complementary and Alternative medicine come under non pharmacological therapies. It is believed that cupping enhances blood flow and alleviate pain intensity caused by blood stasis, therebyimproving physical function. In the present study five participants diagnosed as Katigraha were selected and Massage cupping was done for seven days. Assessment was done for subjective and objective parameters before and after the treatment and compared for assessments and results. All the results were analysed statistically for P value using Wilcoxon signed rank test. Study revealed that, Cupping has significant improvement in range of movements and reduction of pain in Kati pradesha, enhancing the quality of life.
