ABSTRACT
Liquorice, also known as Glycyrrhizin glabra, is a small perennial herb native to central and southwest Asia and the Mediterranean region. In Indian medicine, it is frequently used to treat skin conditions like melasma, freckles, atopic dermatitis, and skin cancer. Liquorice extract is a potent herbal remedy used to improve skin whitening and reduce toxicity. It ismade from the roots of the flowering plant Glyrrhiza glabra. Melanin, a brown pigment found in liquorice, shields skin from UV light. Glabridin, a 20-fold better depigmenting impact than kojic acid, has a stronger activity than kojic acid. An ointment for atopic dermatitis, a chronic skin condition that causes redness and titration of the skin, can be made with powdered liquorice root. Liquorice extract has been used for sensory evaluation and is considered a valuablematerial for the production of cosmetics. The effects of liquorice extract as a topical preparation were estimated on atopic dermatitis.
