ABSTRACT
Discovering and developing new drugs is a complex and multi-faceted journey involving various stages, each with its challenges, requirements, and milestones. This review article aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the stages involved in the drug discovery and development process, shedding light on the intricacies and key considerations at each step. Beginning with target identification and validation, the process moves through lead discovery and optimization, where potential drug candidates are identified and refined for further evaluation. Subsequently, preclinical studies are conducted to assess the safety, pharmacokinetics, and efficacy of the selected compounds, laying the groundwork for clinical trials. Clinical trials, the cornerstone of drug development, are meticulously designed and executed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the investigational drug in humans. These trials are conducted in multiple phases, each serving a distinctpurpose in gathering crucial data to support regulatory approval. In conclusion, understanding the stages of drug discovery and development is essential for researchers, clinicians, and policymakers alike.
