Abstract

TO STUDY THE EFFICACY OF AGNIKARMA AS ANALGESIC IN MUSCULOSKELETAL PAIN IN COMPARISON TO TRAMADOL

ABSTRACT

Pain is the cardinal feature of most of the musculoskeletal disorders. Pain is the factor for which patient generally approaches a doctor. It can affect the quality of life; hence, its preventive measure is of prime importance in health care. Chronic musculoskeletal pain is the main contributor to disability worldwide. Acharya Sushrut has advised Agnikarma in severe painful condition of skin, muscles, veins, nerves, joints and bones. The present study was conducted with an objective to evaluate the role of Agnikarma as analgesic in Musculoskeletal pain management in comparison to Tramadol. 60 patients of Musculoskeletal pain were taken in 2 groups of 30 patients each. Patients of one group were administered Tramadol 50mg orally 8 hourly for 5 days whereas another group were treated with Agnikarma therapy using Panchadhatu Shalaka 3 sittings in alternate day upto 5days. The results obtained were subjected for statistical analysis and conclusions were drawn.
