Abstract

EFFECTIVENESS OF VARMAM MANIPULATION FOR MYOPIA: A CASE SERIES

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Varmam is the branch of siddha system of medicine which involves the special kind of therapy based on the vital points. With a recent study estimating that on average, 30% of the world is currently myopic and by 2050, almost 50% will be myopic. This study focuses on the Varmam manipulation for myopia, which is most commonly encountered in this decade. Aim & Objective: To assess the effectiveness of Varmam manipulation for myopia in OPD of Varma Maruthuvam, Govt Siddha Medical College & Hospital, Palayamkottai. Methods: Through the questionnaires before and Vision Test before and after the Varmam manipulation thrice a week for three months. Result & Conclusion In Myopia, genetic and environmental factor plays a major role.27% of the patients have mild improvement in the spherical power. Certain lifestyle modification and reducing the usage of smart devices or 20-20-20 method on continuousworking and increasing outdoor activity or siddha medication with Varmam manipulation for myopia may lead a better prognosis in future.
