ABSTRACT
Background: In the present era, the demand of the herbal product is increasing due to which there is hike in demand of raw materials. To compensate this demand of raw materials, along with the production, adulteration and substitution is also increased. So, it is important to keep the check on this. So, here pharmacognosy of the drug plays a vital role. Pharmacognosy provides the means to assess and standardized herbal drug which ultimately leads to authentication of herbal drug. Material & Method: For the present study, Nili (Indigofera tinctoria Linn.) has been selected as herbal drug. A thorough study has been carried out of Nili (Indigofera tinctoria Linn.) including its macroscopical and microscopical study. Observation: This study generates the various Pharmacognostical data i.e. microscopical characters of Root and Stem of Nili (Indigofera tinctoria Linn.) which helps in proper identification and authentication of it. Discussion and Conclusion: Pharmacognosy is one of the simplest methods for correct identification of herbal drug. Also, it helps to standardized the new herbal drug, thus making it suitable for the market use.
