Abstract

A REVIEW ON: PESTICIDES IMPACT AND ITS POSSIBLE ALTERNATIVES

Sunita Parihar* and Surbhi Ranka

ABSTRACT

Pesticides are chemically synthesized compounds used to control a variety of pests. These chemical compounds are used in various sectors like food, forestry, agriculture, and aquaculture. Although pesticides kill pests, they are toxic and assert negative impact on soil texture, host plants, animals, and humans thereby leaving their negative footprints on the entire ecosystem. A majority of agri-food sectors are dependent on pesticides, hence reducing their usage pose a complex issue. Their usage can be minimized by switching to ecofriendly alternatives which are beneficial to living organisms as well as eco-system. Development of green eco-friendly management strategies using plants, plant products, microorganisms will help in minimizing the use of synthetic pesticides and at the same time they are cost effective. Thus, this review will focus on the factors facilitating the development of new generation pesticides from green alternatives using plants and theirmetabolites and microbes to create a sustainable environment.

Keywords: Pesticides, Agri-food, Eco-friendly strategies, Metabolites, Microorganisma ‘Significance’ statement: The major significance of this review is to minimize the negative impact of chemical pesticides which are hazardous to plants, humans as well as animals.
