ANTI-MICROBIAL ACTIVITY AND A LITERATURE REVIEW ON SIDDHA FORMULATION OF KARASEELAI [EXTERNAL MEDICINE] IN THE MANAGEMENT OF VIRANAM [SKIN ULCER]

ABSTRACT
The present study deals with the anti-microbial activity and a literature review on siddha formulation of karaseelai [external medicine] in the management of viranam [skin ulcer]. Siddha medicine [Marundhu] is classified as a wide range of internal and external medicines. The major components of its medical formulation s include plant parts, minerals and animal products. Various methods were carried out for the purification process to eliminate the toxins. Chooranam, Guligai, Tailam, Parpam, Chenduram, Kattu, Pasai, Seelai and Poochu are the most common medicines used in siddha system of medicine for the treatment of various diseases. Seelai is the best external medicine for the skin diseases. Karaseelai drugs purification was done as per the siddha classical literature and the formation was prepared as per the procedure mentioned in the sarabendara vaithiya muraigal viranam karappan roga chikitchai. The prepared drug was subjected to analysis.
