COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW ON THE CHARACTERISATION AND QUANTIFICATION OF PLGA IN PHARMACEUTICAL DRUG PRODUCTS
Ankur Vashi*
ABSTRACT
Poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) is a widely utilized biodegradable polymer in drug delivery systems due to its biocompatibility and tunable properties. This review comprehensively explores the various techniques used for the characterization of PLGA in pharmaceutical applications, including physical, chemical, thermal, and molecular weight analyses. High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography (GC), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, Mass Spectrometry (MS), and UV-Visible Spectroscopy are among the primary methods discussed for the quantification of PLGA. Additionally, current trends, recent advancements, and the challenges faced in the application of PLGA-based drug delivery systems are examined. Addressing thesechallenges through innovative solutions is essential for optimizing the use of PLGA in improving therapeutic efficacy and patient outcomes.
Keywords: PLGA, drug delivery, characterization, HPLC, pharmaceutical applications, biodegradable polymer.
