DEVELOPMENT OF QUESTIONNAIRE TO ASSESS KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDES, AND PRACTICES ABOUT ANAEMIA AMONG WOMEN WITH POST-PARTUM ANAEMIA

ABSTRACT
Aim: To assess knowledge, attitude, and practices (KAP) regarding anaemia and its complications among women with post-partum anaemia (PPA). Method: The questionnaire was developed. A prospective cross sectional study was carried out. The study was conducted at secondary care hospital including in-patients department of obstetrics and gynecology department. Results: PPA knowledge, attitude, and practices questionnaire (PPAKAPQ) consists of demographics such as age, education, marital status, occupation. Questions related to knowledge in PPAKAPQ were 23 and it comprised of haemoglobin (Hb) levels, signs and symptoms of anaemia, iron folic acid (IFA) supplements, its benefits, duration and side effects (SE), and consequences and complications during or after delivery. It also included questions about diet, causes, risk factors, and symptoms of PPA, medication adherence and consequences of notadhering to treatment. The PPAKAPQ comprised of two and five questions related to attitude and practices respectively. A pilot study was carried out including 10 women with PPA. Interviewer-administered PPAKAPQ and it took 10 minutes to complete it. It was easy for the patients to understand and complete PPAKAPQ. After pilot study PPAKAPQ was finalised and 51 patients were also enrolled in this study. Thus total data of 61 women with PPA were included for statistical analysis. PPAKAPQ was developed to assess knowledge, attitude, and practices regarding anaemia and its complications among women with PPA. Interviewer administered PPAKAPQ to women with PPA and their responses were documented. Patients were able to understand questionnaire, respond and complete PPAKAPQ easily.
