FAGOPYRUM ESCULENTUM MONECH: A POTENT MEDICINAL PLANT

ABSTRACT
Fagopyrum esculentum Monech commonly known as buckwheat. It is widely cultivated in higher altitude in india, china, Africa and north and south china. The plant having huge nutritional as well as medicinal importance. Various studies reviled the present of rutin in the whole plant which is responsibale for antihypertensive effect of the plant. Antidibetic, antimicrobial, anti fatige, & memory booster effect of the plant is also reported. Phytochemical analysis of fagopyrum esculentum Monech reviled the presence of alkaloid, amino acids, anthraquinones, carbohydrates, flavonoids, phalobatannius and tannins. The nutritional analysis of Fagopyrum esculentum Monech’s light colored flour and bran indicate presence of starch: 55, 75 and 18%; proteins: 12, 6 and 36%; lipids: 4, 1 and 11%; soluble carbohydrates:2, 1 and 6%; total dietary fibers: 7, 3 and 15%; and ash: 2, 1 and 7% respectively.
